From Fabric to Fabulous: Your Guide to Making a Crossbody Bag

Join us on a journey from simple fabric to a fabulous crossbody bag in our latest DIY tutorial.
This post is designed to guide even the most novice sewers through the process of creating a trendy bag.

Using a combination of fabric and faux leather, you'll craft a piece that's as durable as it is stylish.

We’ll also show you how to add an inner zipper pocket, perfect for keeping your essentials secure.

Let's transform your sewing skills into a fashionable statement with this fun project.

The finished measurements of this bag are approximately
24㎝(9½″) W × 17㎝(6¾″) H × 8㎝(3¼″) D.

You may watch the full video tutorial on my Youtube channel.

Because the leather is thick, interfacing was not applied.
If you use cotton fabric instead of fake leather, attach a interfacing.

The pattern for making this can be drawn by yourself by watching my YouTube video.

Place the right sides together of the top(cotton fabric) and bottom (leather fabric) of the main fabric.
Sew the central straight part first.

Align both ends and sew them facing each other.

Sew the other side the same way.

Open out, press pieces and top stitch.

Cut the lining to be the same as the outer fabric.

Draw a rectangle measuring 15cm wide and 1cm tall on the inner side of the inner zipper pocket lining.

Place the lining of the pocket face down, right sides together over your lining of the main fabric.
Then stitch exactly around the rectangle you just drew.

Draw another line through the center of the rectangle right across.
At each end, draw a triangle from the corners to that center line.
Carefully cut along the center line until your reach the triangle, and then snip into the corners, close to, but not through, your line of stitching.

Turn the lining fabric through the hole you just cut and out to the back.
Press the opening neatly.

Sewing with the front upper most, stitch around the opening to secure the zipper in place.

Fold up the pocket lining and pin along the 3 open sides.
Stitch the 3 sides of the pocket lining , making sure to only sew the lining, not through the outer fabric as well.

With assembled lining right side up, center zipper right side facing up along top edge.

Place the outer layer, right side down on top. Pin in place.
Using your zipper foot, sew along top edge using a 1cm seam allowance.

Open out, press pieces away from the zipper.

Attach the outer and lining to the other side of the zip the same way.

Flip the layers so the outer bag pieces are right sides together, and the lining pieces are right sides together.
Sew both sides.

Combine the seams so that a flat base is formed.
Sew with an allowance of about 1cm.

Turn it right side out by pulling the fabric through the opening on the lining.
And sew up this opening.

Attach the strap. I think it looks even cooler with a chain-style bag strap.
