Make Your Own Zippered Pencil Case: Beginner-Friendly Tutorial

In this blog, I'll be taking you through the step-by-step process of creating a fabulous zippered pencil case that's perfect for keeping your writing essentials organized.

What sets this pencil case apart is its amazing features: it's lined for added durability, has a convenient zipper for easy access, and even expands on one side to accommodate extra stationery goodies!

So grab your fabrics, zippers, and sewing tools, and let's dive into this creative journey together.

The finished measurements of this pouch are approximately
21㎝(8¼″) W × 9㎝(3⅝″) H.

Let's get started!!

②  26㎝ × 11㎝ (10¼″ × 4⅜″) Outer layer
②  26㎝ × 11㎝ (10¼″ × 4⅜″) Lining
②  24㎝ × 9㎝ (9½″ × 3⅝″) Mid-weight woven fusible interfacing
①  20㎝ (8″) Zipper

Bend zipper ends in place and sew (at both the pull side and end stop side).

Mark 1.5cm, 10cm, 10cm from the right end of the outer layer.

Place with the center of the zipper and pin it.
Using your zipper foot, sew along top edge using a 0.7cm seam allowance.

Place the lining on top of the zip.
Sew with an allowance of about 1cm.

At this time, sew the non-zippered side down by 1.5 cm.
Please refer to the video for details.

Open out, press pieces away from the zipper.

Mark the same point on the other outer layer.
Center the zipper and sew.

Place the lining, right side down on top. Pin in place.
Using your zipper foot, sew along top edge using a 1cm seam allowance.

Flip the layers so the outer bag pieces are right sides together, and the lining pieces are right sides together.

Sew the sides of the non-zippered part.

Open out, press pieces away from and top stitch on both 1/8” away from the zipper.

Turn wrong side out. Sew 3 sides with an allowance of about 1cm, leaving a 7.5cm opening.

Turn out our pencil case through the hole that we left not stitched. After this, sew up this hole.

Fold the non-zippered part inward and sew the edges.
