Why You Need to Sew This: The Perfect Small Shoulder Bag with a Vintage Twist

Let’s be honest: finding the "perfect" small shoulder bag is harder than it looks. It needs to be cute, but it also needs to actually hold your stuff!

That’s why I decided to make my own Indigo Baguette Bag.
It has that effortless Y2K vintage vibe but feels so modern with the deep indigo tones.
I’ve broken down the process into simple steps so you can follow along without any stress.

Grab a cup of tea, turn on your sewing machine, and let’s create something beautiful together.
You’ll be surprised at how quickly this comes together!

The finished measurements of this shoulder bag are approximately
24㎝(9½″) W × 12.5㎝(5″) H × 8㎝(3¼″) D.

②  10㎝ × 18㎝ (4″ × 7⅛″) Mid-weight woven fusible interfacing
◆ Shoulder strap
①  55㎝ × 4㎝ (21⅜″ × 1⅝″) Outer layer
◆ Others
①  21㎝(8¼″) Zipper_seam allowance included
②  1.5㎝(5/8″) Wide D-ring
①  4㎝ × 16㎝ (1⅝″ × 6⅜″) Outer layer
①  4㎝(1⅝″) Wide bias tape 110㎝(43½″)

With assembled lining right side up, center zipper right side facing up along top edge.
Place the outer layer, right side down on top. Pin in place.
Using your zipper foot, sew along top edge using a 1㎝(3/8″) seam allowance.

Open out, press pieces away from the zipper.
Attach the outer and lining to the other side of the zip the same way.

Open out, press pieces away from and top stitch on both 3㎜ (1/8″) away from the zipper.

Fold the side pocket in half and sew the top.

First, align the bottom of the side pockets on the side panels, then sew the sides of the side pockets to the shape of the sides of the side panels.

Sew the side panels together at each end of the bottom to make one panel.

First, align the center of the bottom of the main panel with the center of the bottom panel. Then, sew around the perimeter of the main panel by aligning the top of the side panel with the top of the main panel.

Finish the seam allowance with a bias tape, and attach shoulder straps to complete the look!!
