Unlined Tote Bag Tutorial (2 Sizes) for a Practical Reusable Shopping Bag
If you want a simple tote bag you can sew quickly and use every day, this unlined version is a great place to start.
In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to make the same design in two different sizes, so you can pick what fits your routine best.
Follow along from cutting to stitching, and you’ll end up with a sturdy reusable shopping bag you’ll actually reach for.
The finished measurements of this bag are approximately
<Small> 32㎝(12⅝″) W × 20㎝(8″) H × 10㎝(4″) D.
<Large> 45㎝(17¾″) W × 35㎝(13¾″) H × 15㎝(6″) D.

Let's get started!!
<Small>
◆ Main panel
① 22㎝ × 50㎝ (8¾″ × 19¾″) Outer layer
◆ Side panel
② 21㎝ × 21㎝ (8¼″ × 8¼″) Outer layer
◆ Others
① 2㎝(3/4″) Herringbone Tape 250㎝(99″)
<Large>
◆ Main panel
① 32㎝ × 85㎝ (12⅝″ × 33⅝″) Outer layer
◆ Side panel
② 27㎝ × 36㎝ (10¾″ × 14⅛″) Outer layer
◆ Others
① 2㎝(3/4″) Herringbone Tape 420㎝(166″)
Cut the fabric into the shape of the pattern.
Fold the herringbone tape in half
and sew it to the top of the side panels and both ends of the main panel.
Do this by marking the center of your main panel and the center of your side panel.
Using your center marks, start pining the bottom of your side panel around the perimeter of your bottom.
Sew all the edges with an allowance of about 1㎝(3/8″).
Attach the other side panel to the other side of the main panel the same way.
Place the herringbone tape with the seam.
Then fold over flush with the seam.
Stitch along the folded edge of the tape.
Extend the herringbone tape to make a handle.
You are finished!!
