DIY Hanging Travel Cosmetic Bag Sewing Tutorial

DIY Hanging Travel Cosmetic Bag Sewing Tutorial

Let’s sew a travel-ready cosmetic bag that actually works on the go.

We’ll draft a simple 22×15×8 cm pattern, then cut and stitch a zip pouch with a flap handle, buckle connector, and a top hanging hook.
Inside the flap, a mesh zip pocket keeps small items visible and tidy.

It’s an intermediate project, but I’ll walk you through every step so you can finish with confidence.

The finished measurements of this bag are approximately
22㎝(8¾″) W × 15㎝(6″) H × 8㎝(3¼″) D.

Cut the interfacing into the shape of the pattern.
Fuse the fusible fleece, centered, to the wrong side.

Place the handle on the right side of the flap and sew.

Sew the zipper pocket outer layer to the top of the 20㎝(8″) zipper, and sew the mesh fabric to the bottom.
Place the right sides together of the zipper pocket and flap and sew the 3 sides with an allowance of about 1㎝(3/8″).
Then, turn it right side out.

Place the flap between the top and bottom of the main panel outer layer and sew them.

With assembled lining right side up, center zipper right side facing up along top edge.
Place the outer layer, right side down on top. Pin in place.
Using your zipper foot, sew along top edge using a 1㎝(3/8″) seam allowance.
Open out, press pieces away from the zipper.
Attach the outer and lining to the other side of the zip the same way.
Open out, press pieces away from and top stitch on both 3㎜ (1/8″) away from the zipper.

Place the side panels on both ends of the zipper on the main panel and sew.
Align the center of the side panels with the center of the main panel, and place the right sides together.
Sew with a 1㎝(3/8″) seam allowance.
Fold the bias twice, cover the seam allowance, and sew.

You are finished!!!
